The truth about Amerikkka: From Ramallah to Riker's Island. A must read by Nigel Perry

I have just finished reading the first few installments of Nigel Perry's account of being sent to Riker's Island, from his then home of Ramallah in Palestine, called "From Ramallah to Riker's Island."  All I can say is that if you have ever wondered whether all the hubbub about the American prison system being incredibly irresponsible, unequal, underfunded, and economically reprehensible is true, Nigel's account of going through it will explain it clear as day.  You can read it on his website Nigel Perry.com "the website less traveled."  http://nigelparry.com/writing/ramallah-to-rikers.shtml As a band, and as activists, we urge you to read this, and then get involved in the prison reform movement at some level if at all possible.

For those of you who don't know, Nigel leads a band called Pocket of Resistance, and they will be doing a really cool show with us on July 18th at this year's PIGSTOCK FESTIVAL in rural Wisconsin, co-sponsored by Iraq Veterans Against the War.  All the details are here: http://pigstockWI.com/  It will be three days of camping, political activism and roundtables, music, and an all around awesome time for all!  Featured guest speakers will include the world renowned progressive journalist Chris Hedges of the Nation Magazine, as well as Colleen Rowley and others.  Nigel will also be joining the panel I believe.  The cost for the whole festival, including camping and everything is between $20-$40.  However, if you are young and broke, there is a sliding scale AND NOBODY WILL BE TURNED AWAY FOR LACK OF FUNDS.

We will keep you posted as we get closer to the date.  And don't hesitate to contact us if you want to talk about carpooling, etc.  We have a van that seats 9!  That means we usually have room in the van for at least a few other folks.

Peace, Love, and Revolution!
